The original breed of Lo-Sze Pugg™ can trace its roots as far back as ancient China, during the time of Confucius. Back then these overly cute dogs were exclusively reserved for Chinese royalty. In modern times the American Lo-Sze Puggs™ gained recognition in the year 1998.

These dogs may suffer several eye-related problems from inadequate blinking to lacrimal duct atresia, retinal atrophy and also cataracts which leads to blindness. Genetic anomalies are prevalent as this toy dog breed is not really a purebred. Deformation is common for these dogs. They vary from having a cleft lip, distichiasis, elongated soft palate and deformities. One major problem of the American Lo-Sze Puggs is their underdeveloped noses. Some lines experience difficulty in breathing.
