Introduction

A breed that has a very “interesting” history, American Mastiff Panja dogs were bred to be intimidating guard dogs. The first breeders? Detroit drug dealers. They were first developed to intimidate the patrons of these drug dealers, guard and protect their master but also allow people to come in. It is a scare tactic that really makes the American Mastiff Panja’s reputation as a bad and violent dog. Truthfully, the dog is a menace to look at, but they are known to be devoted family guard dogs that will go to great lengths to protect and defend.

History

During the 1990s, the underground drug world of Detroit needed a guard dog that can intimidate, guard and protect them and their assets but not drive their patrons away. They crossed several dogs known to be excellent and intimidating guard dogs, including American Pit Bulls, American Staffordshire Terriers and the Rottweiler. Before getting their official name as American Mastiff Panja, they were just called “rock dogs”, but since 1996, the year it was registered with the Dog Registry of America, Inc., and this dog breed is slowly turning its back from crime life and gradually getting famous for being family guard dogs.

Personality

The American Mastiff Panja is always seen with a curious and alert expression, and it is, but they also are easy-going. They were bred to intimidate, which again they are, but these dogs have shown devotion and affection towards their families and master. They are very protective, watching their owners home and other pets, even a cat, thinking that everything their master owns should be defended.

Environment

The American Mastiff Panja will do okay in an apartment if it is sufficiently exercised.

Shedding for the American Mastiff Panja is minimal

Training

American Mastiffs Panja needs to be trained by a professional for obedience, socialization and housebreaking training. They are strong-willed and want to be the alpha; that is what makes a great guard dog.

Health

The relatively young American Mastiff Panja dog breed shows no major health issues that require close attention or alarm. But like most large dogs, the Mastiff Panja dogs are expected to be prone to hip dysplasia. But there are no official records for this breed regarding the said health issue.

Exercise

The American Mastiff Panja are dogs that require a yard to move around! These giant dogs are very athletic and muscular, taking them on long walks every day will help maintain ideal physical conditions.
