History

The Austrian Brandlbracke dog breed or commonly called the Austrian Black and Tan Hound in the United States originated in Austria and is believed to have been developed before the 19th century. This breed is believed to be the descendants of the ancient Celtic hounds. They were originally bred to be hunting dogs that are impressive when it comes to hunting in silence. This stealth hunting capability made them the prized hound dog for Austrian huntsmen. The Austrian Brandlbracke is also commonly used in high altitude areas to track wounded hare or rabbits. This Austrian hound breed is also famous for its swift agile movements and flowing gaits, giving the dog a regal and very solemn appearance.

Personality

Austrian Brandlbrackes are par excellence hunters that are famous for being agile, quick and silent hunters. These are hardworking scent hounds prized for their keen scenting abilities. These hounds are also famous for being elegant while running after all kinds of games. Their good-natured disposition makes them good family pets.

Bred For

Austrian Black and Tan Hounds were originally bred to be silent hunters of various games. These quick dogs are impressive when running after a wounded hare. Today, these dogs are still being bred for their hunting skills as well as for agility and competitive obedience trials. They are also becoming popular as watchdogs.

Environment

The Austrian Brandlbracke is not suited to be city dogs or apartment pets. They are dogs that will thrive in rural areas and given a regular hunting job or used as watchdogs.

Grooming

This Austrian hound breed will be very easy to groom and requires minimal attention. These are dogs that shed hair in very small amounts or none at all.

Training
