History

The Buckley Mountain Feist dog breed is one of America’s youngest and smallest Feist-type dogs. Unlike other Feist breeds that were bred down from the bigger cur-type dogs, the Buckley Mountain Feist is 100% pure Feist. The pioneer breeding credits of this Feist breed goes to Mr. Jeff Buckley, a serious Feist breeder who has been selectively breeding this breed for several years now. Buckley wanted a lighter and smaller but more tenacious treeing dog that can work on rugged mountainous terrain much like the standard and original Mountain Cur breed. He developed a very compact dog that weighs 30 pounds less than the mountain cur but more efficient and has impressive dexterity while tracking, trailing and treeing in mountainous terrain.

Personality

The Buckley Mountain Feist was bred and built to impressive hunters in a very compact and light body. Their hunting skills can match any of the bigger Feist-type breed as well as the heavier and taller Cur-type dogs. They may be tenacious out on the field, but the Buckley Mountain Feist was also developed to be a people’s dog. These are dogs that have a very pleasing disposition, docile and non-aggressive to humans making them great family pets and very good to have around children of all ages.

Environment

The Buckley Mountain Feist will do well as family pets for folks living in rural and suburban areas. They are Small Mountain hunting dogs that are not recommended to keep as city or apartment pets. The Buckley Mountain Feist can also be an indoor family pet. This dog can adapt to life inside the house and can stay for days without the need to go outside.

Grooming

The Buckley Mountain Feist dog breed requires no grooming at all. It is advisable to brush their very short and smooth coat once in a while.

Training

The Buckley Mountain Feist was bred to be a people’s dog. It is very attentive and obedient to its master making this dog highly trainable.

Health

Most Feist-type dogs bred in rural America are generally healthy. The Buckley Mountain Feist is one of them but can acquire injuries and fractures during hunting trips.

Exercise

The Buckley Mountain Feist dog is highly energetic and naturally active. If not kept as hunting dogs, they should be taken on long walks or jogging every day.
