History

The Bully Kutta is a dog breed that originates within Central Asia and a big portion of the Indian sub-continent that covers modern-day Pakistan and India. This dog breed is believed to be very old and has an ancient heritage that goes back to several centuries. In general Bully Kutta are dogs native to the Thar Desert located in the Indian sub-continent where between the borders of Pakistan’s Punjab and Sindh regions and the districts within India’s Rajasthan State.

The Pakistan variety of Bully Kutta dogs is called the Pakistani Mastiff. This variant is widely used in this rural region as dog fighting mastiffs and also as guard dogs for the wealthy.

The Indian variety of Bully Kutta dogs is called the Indian Alangu Mastiff. This is a rarer variety of the Bully Kutta dog breed. They are also used in dog fights but not as common as their Pakistan counterpart. The Indian variety is primarily kept as property guardians and hunting dogs for large game.

The Naagi Bully Kutta is the youngest variety of this breed that is basically bigger and powerful versions of the Standard Bully Kutta dog breed. They are bred and developed in Pakistan and used also for dogfighting and prized for being one of the top guard dogs to have in Central Asia.

The Standard Bully Kutta is the original and prototype breed were all other varieties were bred from. This is an ancient dog breed that hat historical links with the ancient Mughal Empire who ruled Central Asia’s desert region for centuries. Mughal royalty used these dogs to hunt very large games.

This dog breed got its name from the Sindhi and Urdu words “Bohli” which is roughly translated to heavily wrinkled, and “Kutta” which is the local word for dog.

Personality

All the varieties of the Bully Kutta are powerful, agile, very strong and very game dogs as they were bred for dog fights. These dogs are also famous for being impressive guard dogs with protective instincts that are unmatched in their native region. They are large dogs that are impressively fast, capable of quickly striding like big wild cats. They are also known for their noble and dignified stance. Overall, these are intelligent dogs born to protect and intimidate.

Bred For

This breed is an ancient breed originally used as hunting dogs and guard dogs. They also have an extensive blood sports history, being the dog of choice in Pakistan and India for this type of blood sport.

Environment

They are the type of dogs that are not suited for the city. They should not be kept in apartment complexes. This dog breed is an outdoor type of dog and will thrive in rural and suburban areas.

Grooming

They have coats that are short and smooth. This type of coat requires very little grooming.

Training

This is a breed known to be moderately easy to train as they have high intelligence and naturally obedient to their masters. The right method to use on these powerful large dogs is a firm, consistent and confident approach.

Health

The medical history of this dog breed is not well documented. At present, there is no conclusive data about common health issues and genetic disorders.

Exercise

These are dogs that will be happy and content with a fair amount of exercise as they have moderate activity levels. They do need to be exercised every day to keep them fit physically and mentally.
