History
The Chien De L’atlas’s are also called Atlas Sheepdogs in Morocco. These dogs are not native of Morocco nor used or worked as sheepdogs. They originated in the areas covering Sahara and some regions of Algeria, Libya and Tunisia. They have sheepdog in their official name but the Chien De L’atlas never worked as a shepherd. These are dogs used as flock guards to protect livestock from predators such as wildcats or thieves.

Personality
The Chien De L’atlas dog is known to be generally docile and very protective of his family/owners. Chien De L’atlas dogs are faithful and affectionate in nature. This breed of dog is also a great family watchdog for their trait on being constantly alert for danger together with a fearless, curious and easy to train characteristic.

Bred For
Originally Chien De L’atlas was bred to be working dogs that will protect livestock.

Environment
Chien De L’atlas dogs are perfect for rural areas. These are not apartment dogs.

Grooming
Chien De L’atlas dogs are canines that should be groomed weekly.

Training
The Atlas Sheepdogs can be trained but it would take firm and consistent positive training to have these sensitive dogs well trained.

Health
The Chien De L’atlas Dog breed shows no major health issues. Hip dysplasia and obesity are occasionally seen to these African dog breeds.

Exercise
The Chien De L’atlas Dog is naturally very energetic. They should be taken on long walks every day.
