History
The Dorset Olde English Bulldogge originates in the United States during the 1970s. This breed was specifically bred to re-create the working, functional and very healthy bulldogs that were used in England as bull-baiting dogs during the 19th century. Pioneer breeding credits go to Mr. David Leavitt.

He started this breed’s re-creation by using a breeding program that is commonly used to develop cattle rather than domestic dog breeds. Mr. Leavitt’s goal for using this breeding scheme was to maximize all the positive traits of all the dog breed included in the Dorset Olde English Bulldogge’s foundation stock which includes the Pit Bull, Bullmastiff and the American Bulldog.

The result is a dog breed that looks very similar to the 19th century English Bulldogs. Dorset Olde English Bulldogges inherited the Pit Bull’s athleticism and very people friendly disposition, the Bullmastiff’s well-built frame, and the American Bulldogs’ strength.

Personality
Dorset Olde English Bulldogges are much like their 18th-century English bulldog versions, but less aggressive and healthier. This is a big dog that will be great companions. They are versatile bulldogs, that have a strong drive to work and perform, display a pleasing and well-behaved temperament while on the job as well as having the ability to do all the tasks given to them. The Dorset Olde English Bulldogges are very alert, very friendly and very confident. They are known to be very expressive and have this animated personality.

Bred For
The Dorset Olde English Bulldogge is a re-creation of the 19th-century English bulldog breed which was used for bull-baiting. This modern bulldog is less-aggressive and healthier.

Environment
Dorset Olde English Bulldogges can adapt to both city and rural living conditions.

Grooming
Dorset Olde English Bulldogge will require very little grooming attention and keeping their coat in tip-top shape will be very easy.

Training
The Dorset Olde English Bulldogges were bred from various dog breeds known for their intelligence and capability to be well-trained. They can be well trained as long as positive, consistent and very firm methods are used.

The Olde English Bulldogge was specifically created to be healthier bulldogs and shows no genetic disorders or common diseases that affect other bulldog breeds.
