Introduction

Entlebucher Sennenhund is direct descendants of the giant fighting and guarding dogs of the ancient Roman Legion, proud, powerful, strong and sturdy. This may not show on these very affable looking guard dogs, but they are excellent workers who seem to have a perpetual positive disposition to his work. History

This Swiss dog breed’s origin is quite unclear, but historical records show that these dogs were named after a Swiss town within the Swiss region of Lucerne. Entlebucher Sennenhund is the smallest dog included in the Swiss dog breeds which were originally bred with the descendants of the Roman mastiff war dogs and native Swiss working dogs. It is believed that these mountain dogs were initially developed as cattle drovers, herders, and guardian dogs, but has made a name for itself as a powerful and efficient watchdog with impressive protection skills.

Personality

This dog is easygoing, friendly, intelligent and highly trainable. Entlebucher Sennenhund or Entlebuch Mountain Dogs love to be surrounded by his people and friends and has earned the title of being a people-dog. They are very happy to serve and this trait makes it an efficient working companion for cattle driving, livestock guarding as well as a companion pet.

These are Swiss working dogs used as cattle drovers, herders and guardian dogs.

Environment

The Entlebucher Mountain Dog is not recommended for apartment life.

Grooming

This breed is an average shedder and they are easy to groom.

Training

Their eagerness to please attitude and natural instincts to herd and guard livestock make them easy to train. But training should be done in a firm and calm manner, consistent with a pack leader.

Health

Like most mountain dogs, the Entlebuch Cattle Dog is one healthy dog breed.

Exercise

This breed needs to be taken on daily walks or jogs and requires a steady job to maintain their mentally and physically sound temperament.
