Introduction

Giant German Spitz is not actually a giant. This German Spitz variety is actually medium in size, standing between 16 to 17 inches tall and weighing around 38.5 to 40 pounds. This particular German Spitz earned the Giant or Gross in their name for being the largest of three recognized German Spitz breeds.

The Giant German Spitz are very happy and devoted dogs that will be loyal to their owners and families. The most interesting thing about these dogs is that they are excellent jumpers and love to stand on their hind legs.

History

The Giant German Spitz is the largest of the three recognized German Spitz variety. Giant German Spitz or Deutscher Grossspitz or simply Grossspitz was bred from the Standard German Spitz to be bigger and taller. Unlike the standard variety, they were not created to be used for work, but as companion dogs.

Personality

Giant German Spitzes are in general frivolous and fun-loving dogs. They are naturally gentle and will be friendly towards everyone including children and other dogs. Also, they will get along well with other animals and other household pets. The Giant German Spitzes have a high level of intelligence as well as the eagerness to learn. Therefore, training them will be as easy as a breeze.

Bred For

Grossspitz is the German Spitz variety that has always been bred and used as a companion dog. The only other variety of this breed that has the same original purpose is the Toy German Spitz.

Environment

Giant German Spitz is a dog that will be good to keep as apartment pets. In other wor, they will be happier if kept in the apartment with their owners and families.

Grooming

Gross Spitz are dogs that should be regularly groomed to help keep their coat in tip-top shape. Therefore, brushing them twice or three times a week will maintain their coat healthy and shiny.

Training

Gross Spitz dogs are not as feisty as the other German Spitz breeds. They were originally bred to be companions and are obedient, docile and eager to please dogs. Therefore, they are very easy to train.

Exercise
