History
Griffon Fauve de Bretagne or Fawn Brittany Griffon in English is considered to be one of the oldest French scent hounds. Experts and historians believed that their origins can be traced as far back as the fourteenth century and was popularly used to hunt wolves up until the nineteenth century. This was when wolf populations are substantially declining. After that, the Fawn Britanny Griffon became rare. Fortunately during the 20th century, two-decade played an important role in their revival. The 40s and the 80s point in time when their numbers steadily rose. The Griffon Fauve de Bretagne is the ancestors of the Basset Fauve de Bretagne.

Personality
Griffon Fauve de Bretagne are dogs who know how to behave in any given situation. At home, they will be easy going and very affectionate. But when out in the field and working, these scent hounds are intense and versatile trackers and hunters!

Bred For
Originally they were used to hunt down wolves. Then they were used as scent trackers and hunters for small to medium size game.

Environment
Most Griffon Fauve de Bretagne dogs are kept in packs in large kennels, but individual dogs will be happy inside a family home.

Grooming
Grooming requirement and attention needed is above average. But daily brushing and combing should have their rough and short coat manageable.

Training
Like most scent hounds, training would be a bit difficult as they have the tendency to roam. Patient and devotion is the key.

Health
This one of the healthiest dog breeds included in the scent hound dog family. They are so healthy that no major or minor health issues are known to affect them.

Exercise
The Fawn Brittany Griffon dog breed demands special needs when it comes to exercise and space. They are natural hunters and highly energetic. Daily long walks should be done. Having an average-sized yard that is fenced up will suit these dogs.
