History

The Hairless Peruvian Orchid dog breed is not a native of Peru. They are believed to have been brought to the Southern American continent by European sailors and Asian maritime merchants. These hairless dogs are considered to be very old. The Hairless Peruvian Inca Orchid was bred by the Incan nobility as companion pets and bed warmers. It is said that when the Spaniards conquered Peru, the conquistadors discovered the dogs among the orchid flowers and thus called them flower dogs.

Personality

The Peruvian Inca Orchid dog is known to exhibit mildness. They are also known to be very calm and very choosy dogs. These Peruvian dogs are bright and known to be effortlessly trained. It gets along with almost everybody as long as it is socialized correctly.

Bred For

The Spaniards carried the Hairless Peruvian Orchid dogs to China as gifts. They are believed to be progenitors of the Chinese Crested dog breed that is also hairless.

Environment

The Hairless Peruvian Inca Orchid dogs are good apartment pets.

Grooming

Hairless Peruvian Inca Orchid dogs are very easy to groom. They are dogs that do not require special attention to grooming. These dogs do not have hair and thus do not shed.
