The Kemmer Stock Cur or Kemmer Stock Mountain Cur originated in the State of Tennessee in the United States. These cur-type dog breed are originally just a variety or strain of the Original Mountain Cur that is known to be the oldest cur breed that were already being bred prior to the American Revolution.

The Kemmer Stock Mountain Cur was initially bred down from the Original Mountain Cur by Robert Kemmer. He wanted a cur the will specialize and focus their hunting skills on treeing squirrels. Mr. Kemmer’s selective and careful breeding program produced a highly specialize treeing dog that is considered the best to use when hunting squirrels in the rough terrains of the American South. Robber Kemmer’s Stock Mountain Cur was officially recognized by the United Kennel Club in 1991. Since then, various cur breeds has been developed from the original Kemmer lines.


The Kemmer Stock Mountain Curs are naturally sweet and very playful. These cur dogs do not discriminate when showing their love and affection may it towards their family or towards strangers. This is one of the friendliest Cur breeds known, showing no aggression and displaying highly sociable disposition towards other dogs and small animals. These are intelligent curs that will be obedient and highly trainable.
