Introduction

The Kuchi dog breed is a part of the Central Asian Shepherd Dog Breed Family. This dog family is a mixture of different guardians breeds present Central Asian and Middle Asian region. The breed is also called Sage Kuchi or De Kochyano Spai meaning ‘Dog of the Nomads’ and ‘Fighter dog’.

Overall, Kuchis are large dogs with a coat that can be short, medium or long with a thick underwool. There are two types of this breed: the lion-type and the tiger-type.

History

The Kuchi is an ancient dog breed that originated in the Central Asian regions covering modern-day Siberia and Mongolia. They are flock guardians that can effectively work in the rough terrain and harsh weather conditions of Central Asia. Dog historians believe that this breed is several thousand years old and was first used by the early Turkish tribe who were nomads. However, Kuchi dogs are now being bred in Russia and the United States as livestock guardians.

Personality

Kuchi dogs are naturally clever and very protective dogs. However, they can be very distrustful and aggressive when strangers are around. On the other hand, they are very loving and devoted to their family. Also, they can become very attached to their owner. Consequently, that can result in them being overprotective.

As a result, they are not suitable for families with small kids or elders.

In conclusion, the Kuchi breed needs early age training and socialization to become mentally healthy in the future.

Bred For

Kuchis are giant dogs used by nomadic tribes of Central Asia as flock and territory guardians. In addition, in some countries, they are bred to enter illegal blood sports.

Environment

The Kuchi dog breed won’t be able to adapt to city life. But they enjoy open spaces and can’t be happy in small apartments. Therefore, these large dogs require a large yard with a fence in rural or suburban homes.

Grooming

The giant Kuchi dogs do not require special attention to grooming except during the shedding season. To clarify, they are large dogs that shed hair in an average amount.

Training

Kuchi dogs are very obedient and intelligent making them very easy to train. On the other hand, when training a dog like Kuchi, owners should concentrate socialization and desensitization. For instance, it is very important to acclimate them to different sounds from an early age. Also, owners should find out what triggers the aggression and overprotecting behavior of their dogs. Like this, they will make them less aggressive toward other dogs and less protective.

Health

The Kuchi has no known medical issues that commonly affect large dogs. In other words, they are one of the healthiest dog breeds in the world today!
