The Lagotto Romagnolo is an ancient water retriever breed that originates in Italy and has been in existence since the 16th century. These Italian water retrievers were first bred in the marshlands of Ravenna and the lowlands of Comacchio. They were first created to be a dog that can search for truffles on all kinds of ground composition and terrain.

These dogs can search for truffles anywhere. Their highly developed sense of smell and impressive ability to seriously focus on a single scent makes them ideal, and the only dog breed that can do this task.


Lagotto Romagnolo is a hardworking dog that is gifted with an amazing and highly developed nose that is efficient in searching truffles. This breed is one focused canine, concentrating on the slightest scent and will not be distracted by other scents or anything that can divert them to find what they are looking for. These are dogs known to be keen, loyal and very affectionate towards their owners. They get along with other dogs as well as other pet animals. Lagotto Romagnolos are dogs that should be regularly groomed. It is recommended to have their dense and curly coats brushed regularly. These dogs shed little to no hair.
