However, they were bred and used in the land covering ancient Mesopotamia, now known as Iraq and some parts of Iran. In addition, tribesmen of this region bred Persian Greyhound dogs as hunters of various games including hares and gazelles. Today, the Persian Greyhound dogs that are bred in the Middle East are still used for their original hunting purposes. Those that are bred in the United States are bred popularly as companion pets.
