The Podengo Portugueso Pequeno originates in Portugal and was first developed during the 13th century when Portuguese explorers kept them as ratters aboard their ships.

The Smooth Haired Podengo Portugueso Pequeno is the first coat type that traces its history on board Portuguese ships during the 13th century. The Wire-haired Pequeno is very young as a breed, developed during the late 20th century and first shown in the US only in the early part of the 1900’s.


Podengo Pequeno shares all the traits of its larger Podengo cousins. It is a Podengo Grande or Podengo Medio but packed in a small package! Unlike the other two varieties, these small Podengos are more jovial and can be absolutely silly when at home and around their family.
