The Sabueso Espanol dog breed has many uses in its native Spain. These dogs are often used in wild boar hunting in Northern Spain. In Southern Spain, the Sabueso are primarily hunters of hares. They were first used as hunting dogs by hunters that are called Ballesteros; these are huntsmen that use crossbows.

History

Sabueso Espanol is considered to be a very old hound breed that hunts prey by tracking their scent. Their origin is quite unclear, what is clear is that these dogs were already in existence even before the Middle Ages. They have various hunting roles in Spain. In Northern Spain, these dogs are used as large game hunters. In the South, they are treated as hare hounds. This versatility on being excellent hunters of the small and large game made them popular with the Spanish constabulary and members of the aristocracy.

Personality

Sabueso Espanol is even-tempered hunting dogs that are active and very intense when out on the field. Like most scent hounds, they can be a bit stubborn and this makes them pretty difficult to train. They are also versatile hunters, excelling in hunting both large and small game. They are not a good family pet.
