Introduction

Cymric Rumpy Riser cats are semi-longhaired cats that are medium in size. This particular Cymric cat is one of four known varieties of the domesticated Cymric cat breed. All Cymric cat varieties are distinguishable from each other through the appearance and length of their tails.

The Cymric Rumpy Risers are the cats that have a short knob for a tail. This short knobbed tail is made up of vertebrae, ranging from one to three that is connected to the cat’s spine. The spine basically rises upward at the base with a slight bow.

The World Cat Federation, New Zealand Cat Fancy and the South African Cat Council are the only major feline associations that recognized the Cymric Rumpy Riser as a distinct breed under the Cymric cat breed. All other international feline associations that recognize the Cymric as a distinct breed, including all members of the World Cat Congress, all the North American feline associations and all organizations affiliated with the Livre Officiel des Origines Félines consider the Cymric tail varieties simply as the Cymric cat breed.

The official name of this breed is Cymric and only called Cymric Rumpy Riser or Rumpy Riser Tailed Cymric to distinguish the tail variety.

Origin

Cymric Rumpy Risers are the Cymric cats with very little tail and a slight rise at the base of the spine is noticeable. It shares similar origins with the modern-day Cymric cat breed that was seriously developed in Canada.

All Cymric cats and tail variants originate from the Isle of Man in Great Britain. The modern-day Cymric was seriously developed and recognized during the 1960s. The breed’s selective breeding program was spearheaded by Cymric breeders Mr. Blair Wright and Ms. Leslie Falteisek. Like the original Cymric cat breed, the Cymric Rump Riser’s name is a derivative of the old Welsh name that is “Cymru” and a description of its slightly rising little tail on its romp area, hence “Rumpy Riser”.

History

The Cymric Rumpy Riser comes from the centuries-old Cymric cat breed that originates from the Manx cat which is local to the Isle of Man in Great Britain. Currently, all the Cymric Rump Riser cats can trace its roots to the modern Cymric cat breed that was developed as a separate breed from the Manx cat. This initial breeding program happened in Canada during the 1960s and was led by pioneer Cymric breeders Mr. Blair Wright and Ms. Leslie Falteisek. Back then Cymric Rumpy Risers and all the other varieties of this breed were called the Longhaired Manx. By the 1970s, breeders changed it to Cymric, depicting a more “Celtic” sounding name and distinguishing it as separate from the Manx cat.

The Cymric Rump Riser cat is only officially recognized as existing by the World Cat Federation, New Zealand Cat Fancy and the South African Cat Council as a distinct variety of the Cymric feline breed. All other major feline organizations that recognize the Cymric as a distinct breed do not have official names for the different tail varieties.

Today in general, the Cymric breed is recognized as a distinct breed by The Fédération Internationale Féline or FIFE, World Cat Federation or WCF, American Association of Cat Enthusiasts or AACE, Canadian Cat Association or CCA, New Zealand Cat Fancy or NZCF, Southern Africa Cat Council or SACC, American Cat Fanciers Association or ACFA and the Cat Fanciers’ Federation or CFF. By virtue of their affiliation with the ACFA, the Cat Aficionado Association of China or CAA also recognize the Cymric cat breed.

Personality

The Cymric Rumpy Riser is basically a slightly tailed Cymric, a domesticated feline breed known to its gentleness, non-aggressive disposition and very independent nature. These cats are playful at heart, with some known to be impressive jumpers. Like all other Cymric cat varieties, the Cymric Rumpy Riser is also fond of water and any activities done in it. These cats are also famous for being very intelligent. They are so smart that Cymric Rumpy Risers are cats that can be taught to perform tricks! The Cymric Rumpy Riser cat is a semi-longhaired cat with a compact and muscular body and has very little and short knob as a tail. The very short tail rises from the spine with a slight bow.

Body
Cymric Rumpy Riser cats have bodies that are solid and compact in appearance. This cat has a short back that ends in an orange-like roundness. Rumpy Risers also have deep flanks that are considered an essential feature.

Head, Ears and Eyes
The Cymric Rumpy Riser cat has a large and rounded head that possesses prominent cheeks. The cat’s nose is medium in length without a break or stop. The chin has a firm built and appearance. These cats have medium-sized ears that are open at the base and will narrow to a rounded tip. The eyes of these cats are large and round, coming in all colors but should correspond with the coat color.

Coat and Tail
Cymric Rumpy Risers are the Cymric cats that have a very short tail that is “knobbed” in appearance. In the spin area where the tail should be present, a slight rise of bone or cartilage is seen.
