About Athena

Distance: 1,865 Miles
We believe Athena is an Akbash/Pyr mix, but she was picked up as a stray in rural East Texas, so we don't really know anything about her history. No one claimed her during her stray-hold, so we took her into our rescue. Athena was underweight at 75 lbs when she arrived, and since she has a healthy appetite, she is probably up to 85 lbs by now. She has been non-reactive to our goats and chickens, but chased our longhorn calf until his mom intervened. Athena may have been someone's livestock guardian in the past, but she seems to prefer life in the house, of course with the opportunity for play and exercise in the yard. Athena is a bit of an alpha female, thinking that she should be the boss. She is slow to warm up to other dogs, but she does OK once she gets acquainted. She seems to ignore our barn cats.  Even though she can be less than perfect with other dogs, Athena is extremely sweet and loving with humans. We are located in Whitewright, TX, which is about 60 miles north of Dallas. Athena's adoption fee is $300, and she is of course already spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped.
