More about the shelter
Lucky Dog Animal Rescue is a non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing homeless and abandoned animals, primarily dogs from high-kill shelters and owners who can no longer care for them. By working with committed volunteers, foster homes, local veterinarians, trainers, and boarding facilities, we are able to rescue hundreds of animals every year, provide them with loving temporary care, and find them well-matched, carefully screened forever homes. We also serve as a resource to our community and all pet owners by providing education and information on responsible pet ownership, including the importance of spay/neuter, positive behavior training, and good nutrition.

VICKY NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!
Name: Vicky Best Guess for Breed: Chihuahua/Schipperke mix
Best Guess for Age: 4-6 years as of 1.19.20 SEX: female
Approximate Weight: 15 lbs
Gets Along With: other dogs and children. We would recommend she not go to a home with cats.
Currently Living at: DC area foster home
Check out this video of Vicky: https://youtu.be/LxegQ1jUWWk.
Special adoption considerations: Vicky would do best in a home without stairs and restricted high impact activity.
Vicky was heartworm positive and was treated in 2019. Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment. We are happy to talk more in depth about heartworm disease and treatment during the screening process.
I’m Looking For: my forever family! Hi, Vicky here! I am a happy, four year old chi mix who is loving life and looking for my forever family. I'm looking for a family to take me on lots of walks, spend plenty of time cuddling on the couch, and take me to the dog park a few times a week to play with my friends.
What My Foster Says About Me: I LOVE TOYS. I love to chase them and hide them from other dogs. I love to follow my people all over the house and want to be wherever they are. I enjoy walks and meeting other dogs. I am very good on leash and enjoys walks.
Vicky loves to be petted and cuddled. She is super-affectionate and is happiest when she is with you.
She really, really, really doesn’t like to be picked up - kind of snaps at whomever is trying to do that. So taking my cues from her, I only pick her up when she is asking to get on the sofa with me and I do it very carefully. I think that maybe a point of irritation/pain.
Vicky LOVES going on walks and is great on the leash. I allow her to be the pace setter for our pack and she moves right along She does her business both in the yard and on her walks. Vicky does not like it when big dogs rush at her. She isn't aggressive but will let them know to back off if they get too close, too quickly; very appropriate given her small stature.
Vicky is house trained and I do not use a crate with her when I am gone. She has had no accidents in the house since arriving.
V icky loves to cuddle and overall is a great little dog ️ who thinks she is big :)
She takes her meds every day like a champ and is a great eater -- she loves her food and treats.
While restricted to the first floor when I am not home, Vicky otherwise moves easily around the house to be near her human. She is much more interested in human interaction than playing with my dogs.
Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any particular dog is housebroken. All our dogs are working on crate training.
TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $450, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment. If you are interested in adopting, please download our Adoption Questionnaire and email it to Georgia Wood at georgiaw@luckydoganimalrescue.org!
