About Max ~ the ladybug lover!

Distance: 1,140 Miles
Dog for a day update 8/14/2018 We took Max out for the day and took him to the dog beach! He loved the water and was so friendly towards all the other dogs. He was perfect in the car. Max loved to walk and explore his surroundings. He rolled around in the sand and played fetch on the beach between cool downs in the water. He only barked once while we were looking for a parking spot because he was so excited to go play. We loved him!!! Foster Home Update:  Max is really settling into his temporary household with his foster family.    He is a great family dog, because he likes to play, but he is also content to spend the entire school day relaxing in a sunbeam just waiting for the kids to come home.    We have teenagers and Max is so happy when they get home.    He will bring his ball or his rope and nudge them, pushing the toy into their leg until they throw it or begin a game of tug.    When you throw the ball, he brings it back and lays at your feet gnawing it, as if he’s trying to tempt you with its proximity.    Then eventually, he will drop it and look up at you expectantly.    “You know what to do, right?”   He’s smart, too!    Once we threw the ball accidentally into a hard to reach area in the dining room and we thought he would give up on it or need help finding in the dark.    But no, Max just carefully made his way through it, sniffing and looking, not giving up until he found his ball and grabbed it!    He just loves attention!    He likes the treats, but it almost doesn’t matter if you have a treat or not.   One time we ran out of treats, used kibble instead, and he was just as happy!   Even though he loves to play, Max is not a high energy dog.    We never have to worry about taking him on long walks or making him run around the backyard.    He is happy to run the length of the living room to fetch his ball a few times, or just walk to the end of the street and back.    He is low maintenance in other ways, too.    He has to take a pill twice a day, and he does his best to make that as easy as possible for his people.    My daughter feeds him mostly dry, with a little canned food mixed in for flavor, and then she puts the pill right on top, and it goes down every time in his first bite of food.    When you take him out to do his business, he does it right away, and all in one spot.    He’s not the kind of dog who has to think about it and walk for awhile before he’s ready to relieve himself.    And he doesn’t smell and pee on every light pole—just one long pee at the beginning of the walk, and you don’t have to stop again!    He’s also a good leash walker, never pulling, just walking right beside you.    He doesn’t seem to want to go long distances on his walks, though, just to the end of the street, then home.    And if it starts to thunder or lightning, that’s pretty much the only time he is in a big hurry to go home.    But then when we get inside, he isn’t overly anxious during the storm.    He just hangs a little closer to you during the storm, lying or sitting nearby.   Normally, he likes to be in the room with us if we are all watching tv, or at the table eating (but he doesn’t beg)—he will lie there among us, soaking in the company.    If we are moving about, he lies in his sunbeam or on his bed, just relaxing.     Once in a while, he will seek out a little attention, and it’s the cutest thing.    He will come up to you and stand or sit nearby waiting for a pet, then when you do, he leans into you like he’s just melting because it feels SO good!    When he’s hungry or he needs to go outside, he will come and find you, and give you this intense stare that you can’t ignore.    He does something with his eyes, and they just bore into you with this pleading, almost human expression.    He pulls back his lower lip so two teeth of his underbite are sticking out, and he looks for all the world like a toddler just growing teeth.    At that moment, you would be happy to sign over your car to him, but luckily all he wants is a walk or a full dinner bowl!    And, Oh Boy! When you do get the leash or he sees you with the bowl… he gets so excited and starts turning in circles in front of you!    If we could bottle that joy, we’d be millionaires! Max is friendly and accepting with strangers.    He barks at the doorbell but stops barking as soon as we open the door.    He will approach a stranger with his tail wagging and smell them and ask for a pet.    Then after he gets a little hello or a pet, he is content to go back and lay on his bed.    I have never seen him jump up on anyone, and I’ve never seen any aggression.    He will be fine in a home with a lot of visitors.   As far as barking goes, he would be a pretty good watchdog, because he does bark at strange noises, the door, and he also barks when our dog barks.    Usually he quiets down after just a few barks, but sometimes he goes on a little longer than we’d like, but if we tell him “off” he stops barking right away.   He will go to the door and bark if he needs to go outside. He is also very obedient in other situations.    Sometimes he will look at the other dog’s food bowl, and we just say “no,” and Max will leave and go lie down.    Only once he thought about getting up on the couch, and after one “no” he has never tried again.    He goes in his crate when no one is home and at night, and we just call him, tap on the crate, and he walks right in and settles down for a snooze.   Max will be a great family pet, friendly, playful, easy-going, and low maintenance.    He has a lot of love to give and a lot of personality.    Come and meet him, and you will want to take him home.    He is just waiting for his forever family.    He’s waiting for you! ===== Echo kna Max was adopted from our facility in 2011.   Unfortunately, his owner had to move and was not able to take his dog with him.   Max is housetrained, likes other dogs and is good with children of all ages.  He is totally housetrained, enjoys walks and enjoys playing. Max has a thyroid conditon and will need to be on medication for the rest of his life to help his skin and thyroid. He would love to be in a calm, quiet home so that he can relax. His favorite thing in the world is to have a nice big bed to sleep on.  He is available for adoption.  FOSTER UPDATE :   Max is gentle dog, he is house-trained, crate trained, and leash trained. It is very easy to lead him where you want him to go. Our household consists of two adults and three children ages 21, 15 ,14, and a 14 y/o male dog. He gets along well with all members of our family. His balanced lifestyle involves plenty of sleep, sun bathing by the window, going for walks, and playing with his toys. Max has no problem going in his crate at night or when we briefly leave the house. At times during the day he may choose to take a nap inside the crate.
