Meet Brooklyn Brine!
Brooklyn is a ~6 yr old, 5 lb Cairn Terrier and Yorkie Mix (we are just guessing) who joins us from San Jose Animal Care Center
She is spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, free of parasites and has had a dental cleaning.
She does have pretty significant arthritis especially in her hips and is on two very cheap medications (~$5/month per GoodRx). She will come with a several month supply as well as a script for you to fill at your expense at the pharmacy of your choice for one year.
A family who will pursue physical therapy, acupuncture and other treatments would be ideal
Her foster mom says this about her
“Being young at heart is a positive quality to have. And Brooklyn Brine is no exception. She’s sweet and full of love. Her favorite thing is to cuddle on the couch with whoever will share their lap with her. She’s been enjoying the snuggles while watching holiday movies with her foster mom
Brooklyn will grumble at other dogs that walk by but she doesn’t react to them. We are in the process of correcting that behavior. Walking on the leash is going pretty well. UPDATE: She is fine with other dogs in public but would prefer to be the only dog OR live in a home with a dog who is aloof and will ignore her. She does "lap guard" her humans from other dogs
She is really good in a kennel once she settles down for the night. She takes her pills in a bit of wet food or cheese with no issues.
We are working on her potty training skills but they are getting better. In a new home, expect a learning curve as she learns where you want her to do her business. She will use the potty pads if they are available.
Brooklyn did not bother the cats or the other dogs at our vets office. She was more interested in getting all the love and attention from the volunteers and staff.
She can be skittish at sudden movements so loving with young children may not be the best fit. We think she would be good with older children or children who can be gentle.
She also will get under foot so someone who may be unsteady on their feet would not be a good match”
She will require regular professional grooming every 4-6 weeks and the cost of this (~$50 + tip) should be factored into her ownership
She is fostered in the SF Bay Area of CA and adopters will need to be willing to come to us to adopt OR we can transport to Major US airports to FLEXIBLE adopters willing to meet our in-cabin escorts who fly STANDBY (the cost of transport is $50 for health certificate and you will send us a carrier than can be used in the flight and that you get to keep when you get the dog. We do waive the $100 adoption fee for transported dogs, so your cost is $50 + carrier and that usually equals out)

Umbrella of Hope does not have any strict rules on ages of children because all children are different, but our best approximation is that this animal would do best with children over the age of 5
Umbrella of Hope is an all-volunteer, donation-run, non-profit animal rescue based out of Pittsburg, CA that rescues animals from local shelters, places them in private foster homes, provides them with needed medical care and then finds them new homes.
Also, ask us about our seniors for seniors program, where we adopt animals 5 years or older to qualified homes with a $5 donation as an adoption fee. All animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, treated for parasites and given any additional treatments (dental work, bloodwork etc) as recommended by our vet.
Adoptions to veterans of the US Armed Services are ALWAYS free to thank you for your service.
We thank Well Pet Vet Clinic for providing most of our veterinary services and give a special thanks to volunteer photographers Tanya, Barbara, Kristy, Christine, Teressa and Natalie.
