More about the shelter
Canine Adoption and Rescue League is an IRC 501(c) (3) Private Non-Profit No-Kill Organization. Project Second Chance is dedicated to the rescue, care, and placement of orphaned dogs and puppies. We make a lifetime commitment to all of our dogs.
1. Before making your selection, please consider the following. https://www.pawsandlearn.org/contact After reading, select a dog that interests you and fits your lifestyle. For puppies under 11 months old, children in the home must be at least 6 years old.
2. Everyone in the household needs to spend some time interacting with the dog. If you already have a dog in your household, please bring your dog over to meet the dog you’ve selected. All dogs and people in the home must meet the dog you’ve selected.
3. Fill out an adoption application form (note: filling out an application DOES NOT guarantee an adoption).
4. An Adoption Counselor will review the application. Upon approval of the application, you will be contacted to submit pictures/videos to confirm that the fencing and gates are secure, and the yard is safe for the dog.
5. No dog is ever adopted from the program without a home check.
6. If more than one application is submitted for a given dog, our adoption committee will select the home that is best suited for the dog’s needs.
7. The entire adoption process can take up to one week.
8. The adoption process is concluded when an Adoption Contract is completed and the non-refundable adoption fee is paid.
9. Our non-refundable adoption fees per dog are:
$300 for puppies up to 6 months old
$250 for puppies over 6 months old and under 1 yr old
$225 for dogs 1 yr old and under 8 yrs old
$175 for senior dogs 8 yrs old and up
If you can increase the adoption fee for the dog you are adopting, please do so. Any amount over the adoption fee is tax-deductible. If you cannot, please remember us during the holiday gift giving season and for donations of dog toys, dog beds, blankets and other items all rescue groups need. But most importantly PLEASE remember to tell your friends who FALL IN LOVE with your dog (because they will) to ADOPT, don't breed or buy.
About Jack
Distance: 1,485 Miles
Breed: Rat Terrier X DOB: 2/24/2013 Gender: male Altered: yes Coat: medium Size: medium Color(s): black/white with tan on face Description:Hi, I'm Jack, a Rat Terrier X in need of a new home as I became territorial with the two other smaller female dogs in the home.I'm enthusiastic, affectionate and happy most of the time. I leap in the air at dinnertime and will sit until you say "okay" to eat. I will cuddle on the couch with you, nap with you and will sleep with you on the bed if you will allow it. I love scratches on the chest/under the chin/on top of my head. I'm house trained and will let you know when I need to go out. I am trainable and I will work for food!I might do well if you own a large cat. I live with two large cats and I don't mess with them. Small cats or other animals may look too much like prey.I am at heart a hunter. I love to patrol the perimeter of my yard and mark all around the edges. I have caught rats and wouldn't mind catching rabbits that I see (so far, no luck). I have faced off with coyotes on the other side of the fence, so I'm a bit of a scrapper. I haven't had much leash training and walking me on leash has been an issue when other dogs come near. I'm not the type of dog who should be let off leash. I'll need to be your one and only in the home.I need a safe yard to run in and a comfortable home with human contact indoors. I will wander off if a door is left open. I don't care for dog parks. It was too scary for me and I got very anxious.I would do best in an adult only home, but may do okay with older gentle children. I've been okay alone for 4 or 5 hours at a time. When I hear, "I'll be back." I just go to sleep until someone returns.I'd be a great companion for my special someone. If you're interested in meeting me, please fill out an online application to meet me.
