About Bailey Dec 22

Distance: 2,129 Miles
Date into Rescue: 12/12/2022 Reason for being in rescue: owner release Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Bailey is neutered, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. Bailey has history with vets. His records indicate challenges being vetted; our vet was able to examine him without issue, but allowed the exam to proceed at Bailey's pace and on his terms. Bailey wants everything on his terms. Your vet will need to be prepared to go slow, let him build trust, have lots of treats ready, and offer him confidence.  Weight: 35 lbs Height: 16 in Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $399 Fence needed? No What kind of home would be best for me? Bailey seeks a family and home to call his own. He is a cute, mid-sized pup with a personality larger than life. Bailey is accustomed to living life on his terms. He is affectionate, but not in your face. He does not like to be told what to do and will remind you that he is independent and lives life his way. Bailey loves his people and enjoys being around them. He politely asks for his next family kids' not be the baby size. Babies make Bailey a little uneasy. Bailey can get along with other dogs his size or bigger if they are calm and not too rowdy. Bailey has not been cat tested.  Bailey needs a savvy dog owner. If allowed, he will be alpha of the home, including over humans. He is not for a first time dog owner or for an owner looking for a submissive dog. He is smart and likes life on his terms. Think of him as an independent soul. What is my personality like? Bailey was purchased as a young pup by his family. His family went thru a divorce and unfortunately for Bailey, he was passed along to wife and then to the husband and neither of them could give him the home he deserves. Bailey is a sweet guy but not overly affectionate. He's a little spunky when the mood strikes but overall he's a mellow guy that likes to watch the world float by.  Bailey can be reactive if his people grab his collar and try to pull him around. If you need to catch him quickly, the best way that's the most comfortable for Bailey is with a leash and a bag of treats. Bailey is super food motivated and will happily do anything you ask of him. He was very well trained by his former family. He knows all the basics but his recall is unreliable. He is crate trained. We would recommend he have a crate to go into in his new home.  How do I act when I first meet new people? Bailey is a super sweet gentleman. He will kindly come over to you and check you out. If you offer food then you've already won him over. If you provide a cozy lap then you're his bestie.  Other tips and tidbits: Bailey's family stated he was 10 years old when surrendered to rescue. We celebrate his birthday as 11/19/2012. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
