More about the shelter
Founded in 2003 by Lana Bajsel, Give Me Shelter Cat Rescue (a registered 501(C)3 non-profit organization), has worked tirelessly within the San Francisco community to help stop the overpopulation of abandoned and unwanted adult and senior cats.
As a small group of dedicated volunteers, we try to save as many feline lives as we can. We provide behavioral and medical intervention, unconditional love and a safe haven while we seek new forever homes for our feline friends.
As many of you know, the odds are stacked against older cats that are placed in local shelters. Here in San Francisco, most adult cats are at risk of being euthanized, whether it is due to their age, easily treatable medical conditions, or due to the stress of being placed in a shelter. We believe that adult and senior cats, with their typically calm personalities, can make the best of family pets. Our mission is to rescue these cats and find them loving, permanent homes through fostering and active adoption strategies.
All of our adopters are required to fill out an online application. Once we review the application, we contact the applicant to do a phone interview, and a zoom call to meet and learn more about the cat with the foster parent to determine if it's a good fit for everyone.
Then the potential adopter can meet the cat in person and take them home if approved through this process. We have them sign an adoption agreement and pay $150 adoption fee.
About Cece
Distance: 3,977 Miles
Hi! My name is Cece! I was rescued at ACT Spay/Neuter Clinic in Stockton, CA. I'm a sweet and friendly kitty. I initially come across as shy but only because it takes me a little time to open up and reveal my true purrsonality. Once I open up, I'll seek out your attention and show off my purrs and muffin-making skills. I'll even sleep on the bed with you at night... meow. I'm looking for an experienced and patient family who understands some kitties require a little more time than others to feel comfy in new environments and around new humans. And if you already have a kitty at home, that's fine with me because I get along well with other kitties. I know some of my Instagram fans and people who have met me at the adoption fairs are probably wondering why I haven’t been adopted by a loving family yet. I’m beautiful, sweet as can be, and love humans, so what’s the holdup? Well, let me explain. I have Manx Syndrome and it’s important for people to understand what this is. Some cats with Manx Syndrome lose mobility and aren’t able to jump but that isn’t true for me because I have full mobility and get around just fine. I can run, jump, play, and groom myself. However, in my case, I don’t always use the litter box consistently. I also experience constipation. My foster human has discovered how to better manage this and is happy to explain to you what she’s done. There’s definitely a way to keep things neat and tidy, it just requires a little extra effort. Oh, and If you would like to learn more about me and my condition, you can contact our team and my foster mom will tell you more about me and answer any questions. I have so much love to give and am looking for a big-hearted family committed to my long-term care and well-being. Could that be you? You can see more of me by checking out @purrfect_purrminators on Instagram and my new Instagram dedicated just to me @adopt_cece.
