More about the shelter
CrisisDogsNC is a foster-based, 501 (c) (3) non-profit founded in 2017 by journalist and author Judith Reitman Texier whose investigative articles garnered international awards and prompted changes in animal welfare laws. She created the Organization in response to North Carolinaâs euthanasia rate which is among the highest in the country and to many of its sheltersâ methods of euthanasia that are so inhumane they are outlawed in most other states.
â
We rescue dogs from kill shelters, substandard backyard breeders, hoarders, and from chains. We provide full medical care, foster homes, and transport by land and air through our partnership with PilotsNPaws to fully screened and qualified adopters all along the East Coast.
â
What distinguishes us from other rescues is our focus on the relationship between the rescued dog and the new family. By understanding your lifestyle and expectations, as well as the personalities of our rescue dogs, we can make a compatible match for a lifelong bond. We are in it for the life of the dog. At any point after adoption, if the adopter's situation changes for whatever reason, we will always accept the dog back into the rescue.
We screen fosters and adopters. If approved for a Dog you will be required to sign a contract.
About Nana & Cappy
Distance: 2,339 Miles
NANA and Cappy. Schnauzer pair. female Nana; 11 yrs, 15 pounds, male Cappy, 12, 19 pounds.
Female household best. This deeply bonded pair was bought from a breeder and lived with a woman in an unstable environment. They would be best in a dog-experienced female household as the only dogs. These two are an immediate family! Nana and Cappy are housetrained and crate trained and need to be cozy together . Neither are really playful. They just like and need to be together. Their foster writes, "Cappy will come up to you to be pet, but does not like being picked up. He is skittish and scared, as is Nana. Nana will not eat unless Cappy is near her. She is scared of other dogs and will hide. Nana is also scared of wood floors so she must have been used to carpet. Loud noises or sudden movements scare her. " With time and trust this pair will be loving companions to a woman, as they are very loving together. Cappy has a benign lipoma mass which we have checked out. He was exposed to Lyme disease but has no symptoms.
This dog is available and everything we know about this dog is included in the dog’s description. We are only able to respond to questions once a completed application is received https://crisisdogsnc.org/dog-adoption/. We do not respond to questions about our dogs sent through email or social media. Excellent vet references and a virtual home visit required. Your prior or current dog must be on year-round heartworm prevention. We transport by land or air whenever possible. Unless there is definitive documentation our breed and age assessments are based on visual appearances.
