More about the shelter
Founded in 2003 by Lana Bajsel, Give Me Shelter Cat Rescue (a registered 501(C)3 non-profit organization), has worked tirelessly within the San Francisco community to help stop the overpopulation of abandoned and unwanted adult and senior cats.
As a small group of dedicated volunteers, we try to save as many feline lives as we can. We provide behavioral and medical intervention, unconditional love and a safe haven while we seek new forever homes for our feline friends.
As many of you know, the odds are stacked against older cats that are placed in local shelters. Here in San Francisco, most adult cats are at risk of being euthanized, whether it is due to their age, easily treatable medical conditions, or due to the stress of being placed in a shelter. We believe that adult and senior cats, with their typically calm personalities, can make the best of family pets. Our mission is to rescue these cats and find them loving, permanent homes through fostering and active adoption strategies.
All of our adopters are required to fill out an online application. Once we review the application, we contact the applicant to do a phone interview, and a zoom call to meet and learn more about the cat with the foster parent to determine if it's a good fit for everyone.
Then the potential adopter can meet the cat in person and take them home if approved through this process. We have them sign an adoption agreement and pay $150 adoption fee.

Hi! We're Simon and Pinky! We were rescued in Stockton, CA. My sister and I have very similar purrsonalities and are told we’re like two peas in a pod. We like to take things a bit slow in the beginning because trust takes time but we really help each other out in this department. I’m a very handsome Tabby boy with a white bib and mittens to match. I was a bit more confident than my sister when we first arrived so I helped show her we didn't need to hide and that we were safe and could explore our new place. I’m a foodie, just like my sister. Mealtime was a great way for our foster human to interact with me in the beginning. My hesitations vanished when my meal appeared and I happily ate in front of her. Then she began giving me nice pets while I ate and that was super nice. But you know what’s even better? Yummy treats! They’re extra super nice! I love those tube treats and the crunchy ones I can eat out of her hands. I’m having lots of fun playing with Pinkie, our toys and our foster human. It took me a little time to jump in and begin playing with our foster human but my sister really helped me out in this department. Seeing her let loose and play with our foster human showed me I didn’t need to be wary of joining in. My sister is still so much better at jumping and batting the wand toys but I’m starting to get the hang of it now that I understand the game. We’re looking for a patient family who understands some kitties need a little extra time to open up and reveal their true purrsonalities. We purromise your patience will be worth the wait! You can see more of us here @rsinr. Please note:Simon should be adopted with a littermateIndoor only For more information & an online application go to https://www.givemesheltersf.org/adoption/cat.php?id=11996&ts=1714662137&src=rg
