Cocker Spaniel Adoption Center is a virtual rescue. We do not own a brick and mortar building. We are a network of fosters, adopters, and rescue partners. Primarily located in north-eastern Maryland and south-central Pennsylvania, CSAC accepts applications from anywhere someone is willing to drive from and pick up a dog. As an all volunteer organization, we may be limited by the number of volunteers in any geographical location. It may not be possible to complete our application process, i.e. a home visit, depending on your geographic location, but we will try out best.
We strive to rescue cocker spaniels and provide them with the medical, emotional, and behavioral care they need to become great pets. We find safe, loving, forever homes for the rescued cocker spaniels in our care.
Cocker Spaniel Adoption Center Inc, founded in 1995, and incorporated in 2003, grew out of the need to find adoptive homes for the ever-increasing number of Cocker Spaniels showing up in local kill-shelters and county humane societies. Cocker Spaniel Adoption Center is comprised entirely of volunteers that assist in the rescue and placement of Cocker Spaniels (and honorary Cocker Spaniels) throughout the East Coast of the United States and Canada.
Cocker Spaniel Adoption Center is different in its approach to rescue than many other breed rescues. We accept all cocker spaniels into our rescue, regardless of age or medical condition; not just the young and healthy that are easily adoptable and inexpensive to rescue. We believe all dogs have love to give someone. The Cocker Spaniel Adoption Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization, and your donations are entirely tax deductible.
If you would like to adopt one of our needy dogs, the fastest and most efficient way to be considered is to fill out an online application, and send it to us as soon as possible. The application will be reviewed by members of CSAC Placement team. The review process includes a background check, and whenever appropriate, a check and verification of the veterinary history of the applicant's present or previously owned animals. If the application is approved, we will contact the applicant by phone or email to set up a home visit. A home visit will be scheduled at a mutually convenient time. If all goes well, the approved applicant can schedule a meet and greet with the dog they are interested in adopting. The final stage of the adoption process is filling out the Adoption Agreement, which is signed by the adopter(s) and a CSAC representative.
Adoption fees:
$400 - puppy to 1 year 11 months,
$350 - 2 years to 4 years 11 months,
$300 - 5 years to 8 years 11 months,
$250 - 9 years and older
Adoption fees are required to help offset the large expenses incurred caring for the dogs. On average, the adoption fee covers 60% of the expenses.
By the time of adoption, all dogs have been examined at least once by one or more board certified veterinarians. The dogs move into their forever homes having had all the treatment and care we can adequately determine they need, including -- but not limited to -- vaccinations, spaying and neutering and heartworm tests. Everything possible is done to reasonably ensure the health and well-being of our dogs.
Every attempt is made to assess the temperament and behavior of the animals, and they will be as socialized as possible under the circumstances. We are honest with potential adopters about our dogs, and all available information is disclosed. We make no guarantees about the health or temperament of any of our rescue dogs, as we often know so little of their history, but we do all we can to determine and take care of as much as possible under the circumstances. Our primary objective is to see these formerly unfortunate animals placed in safe, secure homes, where they will be loved and accepted as family members for the rest of their lives.
Occasionally we will feature mixed breed dogs and other breeds in need of homes. You may even see a cat or two appear on our pages. We will not turn our backs on any animal in need.

She has been in a foster home since August learning to live in a home and to trust people. Our foster has worked with her, and she has made some progress but still has some quirky behaviors. She will need a home that will work with her to continue her progress and understand her uniqueness. She does like being with other dogs and should go to a home with other dogs. She will follow them around and will bark when they bark, but she does not play. She does not play with toys, but she does have her favorite stuffed animal that the foster can put in the microwave to warm up. She will snuggle with it. You can put her on your lap, pet her and cuddle, but she will not seek that attention. If you stop, you may get a side-eye because she secretly likes it. She will explore the foster's home when she is not home or in the room, but as soon as the foster comes into the room, she will go to her corner. Daphne picked a corner in her foster's house that is her safe space, the foster placed a comfy bed there, and she will go there when scared or insecure. She also eats there. She does sleep in the foster's bedroom in a dog bed. House training for Daphne is unique. She will not walk out a door. You can carry her outside, and she will pee outside, but she runs right back in the house. She will poo on a pad, and she will bark to let you know the pad needs changed. Daphne needs an adopter who will love her for who she is, keep working on her training, and continue to teach her that people will love her and not hurt her. MY ORIGINAL INTAKE INFORMATION: Hi Everyone! My name is Daphne, and I just arrived at CSAC. I was rescued from a puppy mill. I am very scared because I have not been around a lot of people or lived in a home as a pet. I have spent my life in a barn, a shed or a cage. The best home for me has people who have dog experience who can help with my training and acclimating to the outside world. The people in my new home should be able to teach me the skills I need to be a great pet: walking on a lead, house training, and socializing. I will need time to trust people who want what is best for me and are not going to hurt me. That is something I have not experienced so far in my life. I should not be in a home with little children. Right now, I am in the caring hands of one of the great Vets that work with CSAC. They are checking me out and making sure I am healthy. Hopefully, I will find my new family that will help me to understand that I am a cherished family pet, not just an animal to be used to make money.
