About Moses

Distance: 223 Miles
Moses is a wonderful, loving boy. He has not met a person he doesn’t love.  He is, however, a work in progress. That means he’s not a plug & play dog, but with efforts come great rewards.  He would love a human that will be his everything & visa versa.   A few musts:   - No children under 12.  He is a lover, but also a big boy that thinks he’s a puppy & a lap dog. - A fenced yard.  Although he is older & likes his naps, he still requires ample exercise. - Continued training. He’s a smart boy & needs mental stimulation. This also means he needs an owner that will keep him from taking the upper hand & developing bad habits. He remembers & responds well to a lot of basic commands. He would be a fun dog to try with fly ball or agility training.  -  Structured meet & greets with any dogs he may live with, play with or come into contact with is required. He loves to play, but can be overwhelming. He can also be a bit protective, so he needs to know other dogs are not a threat to him or his people.  - Patience.  Moses is a work in progress.  He has not had the best of opportunities in his life and is still working to shed that baggage.  Where he is a dog that Is house trained (given a day or two adjustment), he has a big bark & keeps some odd hours of when he thinks it’s playtime. Any new owner will need to help Moses adjust to new routines & schedules.   Moses currently resides with 5 other dogs of all sizes & is respectful of each.  He has no interest in being top dog, but does want to be close to his people. He has been fine with our cat, but our cat is dog friendly & does not run.  Any animal that gives chase Moses sees as fair game for being chased.  This means squirrels, rabbits, deer, chickens, etc.  for this reason a leash is essential when outside a fenced yard.  He walks pretty well with a harness & leash, but gets excited with sights, sounds & smells.  He has proven to not be chicken safe, if that matters. He loves his toys and chews. He has a toy box that he rustles around in to find just the right toy & sometimes he systematically brings them all out onto the floor before he makes a final selection.  Long lasting chews are also necessary & we have found he loves the yak milk chews & they last him a good long time with a strong chewer like Moses. He is a furniture boy & wants to be with you when you’re lounging on a couch or bed. He just wants to be with his people & share in the delights & joys of life. If you are still interested, the next step is to fill out an application which can be found at CastawayCritters.org.  Moses is in foster care so please complete an application before meeting him. Completing an application does not obligate you to adopt; however, it is required. Applications are processed in the order received in an effort to find the best match possible for both the dog and the adopter.
